Bungee Run Inflatable: What Rental Operators Need to Know
A bungee run is one of the simplest interactive inflatables to explain and one of the most reliable to book. Two players strap into elastic harnesses, sprint down parallel lanes, and try to place a marker as far forward as possible before the bungee cord yanks them back.
For rental operators, the bungee run hits a sweet spot: high engagement, low supervision complexity, and a footprint that fits most event spaces.
How a Bungee Run Works
The inflatable is a long, narrow lane — typically a dual-lane design so two competitors race simultaneously. Each lane has an elastic bungee cord anchored at the rear wall. Players wear padded harnesses clipped to the cord, sprint toward the far end, and stick a Velcro marker to the lane wall at their furthest reach.
Rounds last 15–30 seconds, which means high participant throughput — critical for large events.
Standard Sizes and Specifications
| Spec | Standard Unit | Extended Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 30–35 ft | 40–45 ft |
| Width | 11–14 ft | 14–16 ft |
| Height | 8–10 ft | 8–10 ft |
| Weight | 250–350 lbs | 350–450 lbs |
| Blower | 1 × 1.5 HP | 1–2 × 1.5 HP |
| Setup time | 10–15 min | 15–20 min |
The 35-foot standard model works for most rental scenarios. The extended 40–45 ft version gives more runway for adult competitors.
Materials and Construction
- Lane floor: 18 oz PVC minimum with reinforced wear strips.
- Rear anchor wall: Welded or triple-stitched reinforcement plates at bungee attachment point.
- Side walls: 10 ft tall inflated walls to contain players during snap-back.
- Bungee cords: Commercial-grade elastic. Replace every 6–12 months.
- Harnesses: Padded with quick-release buckles and dynamic-rated carabiners.
Rental Pricing and ROI
- Bungee run: 1.3× to 2× standard bounce house rate
- Pairs well with obstacle courses for corporate packages
Pays for itself within 15–20 rentals. Appeals across all age groups — kids, teens, and adults.
Setup Requirements
40 × 20 ft minimum space. Grass ideal. Indoor: 12 ft ceiling clearance. One 1.5 HP blower. One attendant manages both lanes.
Safety Considerations
Among the safer interactive inflatables because the harness constrains movement:
- Weight limits: 50–250 lbs per lane
- Harness fit check before every run
- Center divider must stay rigid
- Wipe lanes in hot weather
- Age minimum: 5–6
Maintenance
- After each rental: Inspect cords, check harness hardware
- Monthly: Full inflation check, test bungee elasticity
- Replace cords every 6–12 months, harnesses every 12–18 months
- Roll — do not fold. Store dry. Lifespan: 4–6 years.
Bungee Run Variations
- Basketball variant: Players try to dunk before the cord pulls back.
- Velcro wall variant: Players in Velcro suits try to stick to the far wall.
- Triple-lane: 50% more throughput for large events.
What to Check Before Buying
- Bungee cord replaceability — cords are consumables
- Quick-release harness buckles
- Floor wear layer thickness
- 1-year warranty on seams minimum
- EN 14960 / ASTM F2374 compliance for commercial inflatable equipment
